6.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Near Venezuela Coast, Tremors Felt In Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, and Grenada

A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck in the Caribbean Sea near the coast of Venezuela late Saturday evening, with tremors felt in parts of Trinidad & Tobago, Guyana, and Grenada. According to the United States Geological Survey, the quake occurred at 11:58 p.m. EDT, with its epicenter located 29 km northeast of Yaguaraparo, Venezuela, at a depth of 87 km. Currently, there are no reports of damage or injuries.

Several people took to social media to report the shaking.

“An earthquake was felt in Maturín-Monagas-Venezuela at midnight, from the 2nd floor of the building the bed shook for a few seconds,” one person wrote on X.

Another shared, “WOW. An Earthquake just hit Trinidad 🇹🇹 Pray all is well cause we felt it all the way in Guyana.”

A third person commented, “How much was that earthquake in Trinidad because that I was a STRONG ONE.”

Another person noted, “So moms just called me and told me they had an earthquake in Trinidad (6.2) they hotel is on a hill.”

“There was a 6.0 magnitude earthquake here in Venezuela and my head is spinning and my heart is racing from waking up that sudden. i guess i’m not sleeping tonight,” another person reported.

On Tuesday, a magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck Trinidad and Tobago. The quake’s epicenter was located 58 kilometers north of Port of Spain and 95 kilometers west of Scarborough in Tobago. The Seismic Research Centre at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine campus, reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 19 kilometers. There were no reports of damage or injuries.
