Know Before You Go: European Nations Battle Severe Flooding Amid Storm Boris

Eastern and Central Europe have been grappling with the devastating effects of Storm Boris, which has brought unprecedented rainfall and flooding to the region. Several countries, including Italy, Hungary, and Austria, have been severely impacted, making travel difficult and dangerous.

The storm has exceeded September rainfall averages in parts of Romania, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Italy, and Germany. Additionally, the Alps have experienced heavy snowfall, further exacerbating the situation. Before you travel to Europe, make sure you read this advisory to get all the important information.

Travel Alert: Storm Boris wreaks havoc in Europe

Cities across Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Romania have been evacuated due to torrential rain and flooding. Storm Boris in Europe have claimed lives in these regions, say reports.

Slovakia, Hungary, Germany and Italy are on high alert as water levels continue to rise. The storm’s devastating impact was felt most acutely in the border region between the Czech Republic and Poland.

Poland: The southwest of Poland has been particularly hard hit, with widespread evacuations and the closure of the Golkowice border with the Czech Republic.

The Czech Republic: The government has declared the highest flood warnings in over 100 locations, with the Northeastern regions facing the most severe conditions. People had to be evacuated from cities like Opava, Krnov, Ostrava and Bohumin.

Austria: Lower Austria and Vienna, the nation’s capital, have been inundated, while Upper Austria has become the victim of snowstorms and avalanches.

Romania: The counties of Galati and Vaslui have experienced massive flooding.

Germany: Southern and Eastern Germany are bracing for heavy snowfall in the Bavarian Alpine and flooding near the Elbe River.

Slovakia: There have been reports of flooding in areas near the Danube River.

Italy: Storm Boris is set to impact Italy as well, with warnings of heavy rains, strong winds, and floods. The city of Pescara has already been flooded, and the northern coast of Emilia-Romagna to the southern coast are on alert.

Massive storms have been wreaking havoc across the world, with Europe and Asia facing the adversities. China has been dealing with Typhoon Bebinca, leading to Shanghai cancelling all flights, trains and ferries. Japan is recovering from the Typhoon Shanshan. Typhoon Yagi has caused massive destruction in Vietnam, Myanmar and Thailand.
