Flight that lasts over 5 hours and doesn’t even leave Europe

This European flight doesn’t even get you out of the continent despite being in the air for so long. Running only twice a week, the flight from Athens, Greece and Reykjavik, Iceland takes five and a half hours.

Covering a huge 4400km, the flight is the longest one possible while still in Europe. In five hours, the furthest you can get away from the UK is to Egypt in Africa.

Athens is the oldest city in Europe and one of the oldest in the world – it is often recognised as the birthplace of democracy and is a popular destination for tourists. The city is named after the Greek goddess of Athena who was the goddess of war.

Visiting the Pathenon is the most popular thing to do while in Athens, one visitor on Tripadvisor said: “Seeing the Acropolis Hill was a lifelong dream that finally came true at age 51.

“Even experiencing it in its current renovated iteration was so exciting and allowed us to step back in time and look at the world as the ancient Greeks did in the 13th century BC.”

If you are planning on visiting the city, make sure to research the history of the area before going to make the most of your trip.

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland – a nordic island in the North Atlantic. It is a country of geothermal pools and northern lights, volcanoes, and glaciers. Known for its natural beauty, it is vastly different from the bustling city of Athens.

One of the must-see attractions in the city is the Hallgrímskirkja church, one visitor on Tripadvisor said: “This is a very impressive and unique looking building.

“I think it’s the most iconic image of Reykjavik. It’s also quite nice on the inside. It’s free to enter but you can also pay to go up to the top and get a nice view of the city.”

In second place is a flight from Warsaw to Tenerife which also takes a similar amount of time.
