Football Accumulator Tips: Thursday night’s 11/1 British & Irish European Football Wager
Thursday night sees the return of the Europa League and Conference League with a clutch of UK and Irish sides in action across a busy evening.
Football tipster, Andrew Cunneen has a four-fold Acca built up for us with Ruben Amorim making his European debut for Manchester United with Tottenham, Larne and Shamrock Rovers also on duty.
*All games kickoff at 8pm
Man United v Bodo/Glimt – Rasmus Hojlund to score anytime
Tottenham v Roma – Tottenham to win
Rapid Vienna v Shamrock Rovers – Rapid Vienna to win to nil
Olimpija v Larne – Olimpija to win to nil
Man United v Bodo/Glimt – Rasmus Hojlund to score anytime
Europa League match at Old Trafford
TV: TNT Sports 2, 8pm
It’s not often you get such candid feedback from a manager after a game anymore, but a fortnight into his Man United career – consider me grateful.
I should confirm I have no feelings, warm or cold about Man United Football Club, but if Amorim wants to continue to say things like playing Marcus Rashford up front makes it difficult for the ball to stick, then indicate he needs a front man who’s stockier, I like this level of detail.
It all but confirms Hojlund will start at home to Bodo/Glimt for two reasons. One being there’d be space for Rashford to run into, but also because it’s a rare opportunity to see something in action, when the consequences are low if it fails.
Hojlund is getting a dry run here, and I look forward to him inevitably converting.
Tottenham v Roma – Tottenham to win
Europa League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
TV: TNT Sports 1, 8pm
Claudio Ranieri feels like a meme, but yet he’s the manager of one of the biggest clubs in Europe, and sometimes that sentiment works.
In this instance? Not quite. They’re 12th in Serie A where it seems any club who’s spending a few quid is mounting a title challenge.
They’ve lost five of their last six, and Ranieri is expected to rotate for this game, with a home tie against Atalanta coming up.
Spurs are a basket case, and you very much need to catch them on a good week, but coming off the result they lifted last weekend, you’d be confident they can capitalise on a wounded animal at home.
Rapid Vienna v Shamrock Rovers – Rapid Vienna to win to nil
Conference League match at the Allianz Stadion
TV: TNT Sports 6, 8pm
Shamrock Rovers are facing footballing jetlag. And I don’t mean the quick flight to Austria, but more feeling like the season is over when it’s really not.
The club would have attended multiple awards dinners over the last two weeks, sat through an FAI Cup final and have their heads somewhere in Lanzarote, but still face some of their tougher opposition in Europe.
All this to say, a loss here does them no real harm, as they’re confident results against the weaker sides in their schedule should see them qualify for thee knockouts.
Rapid Vienna have the best defensive record in Austria, losing just one of their 14 games. They’ve also won six of seven at home, and kept three clean sheets in those games.
Olimpija v Larne – Olimpija to win to nil
Conference League match at xxx
TV: TNT Sports 5, 8pm
God love Larne. It’s not been an easy ride for them in Europe.
They’ve lost all three games, shipping nine goals in the process – and their only two goals have come while catching St. Gallen on the hop before collapsing, and a consolation goal against Shamrock Rovers.
Since then, they’ve lost their management team to Derry City, and fallen to 9th in the Northern Irish Premiership.
There’s not a tonne of hope in the short-term and I’m not sure a trip to Slovenia to be pumped without the ball is the ideal respite.
