The ‘9’ in fashion in Europe has already decided his future: Barça, ready to negotiate

In Portugal, the local press is beginning to seriously speculate about the signing of Viktor Gyökeres for FC Barcelona. The latest reports indicate friction between the striker and the Sporting CP board due to the team’s collective decline, a factor that would leave the way clear for Barça to negotiate with the 26-year-old footballer, beyond the interest of Paris Saint-Germain and other clubs with a much more robust checkbook than the Blaugrana.

Since the arrival of Tiago Teixeira, who replaced Rúben Amorim, the ‘lions’ have a couple of consecutive defeats in the Primeira Liga and, this week, they also fell in the Champions League against Bruges (2-1), another defeat followed by the very tough 1-5 against Arsenal. These results have led the ‘9’ to seriously question his future with the Lisbon team.

In that sense, Barça can take advantage of the Swedish star’s desire to leave in 2025 to negotiate a transfer at a lower price, in the order of 70 million euros (his current market value). Viktor has a contract with Sporting until 2028, but at the José Alvalade they are already clear that it will be practically impossible to retain their star, at least, one more season.

Gyökeres is clear: Barça is his ideal destination

With Erling Haaland closer to renewing with Manchester City and Harry Kane at his best with Bayern Munich, the options are reduced for a Gyökeres determined to make the leap to a giant next summer. Due to current situation, style and sporting project, Barça looks like the ideal destination for the Stockholm native, as long as the Barça board decides to go for a top ‘9’ at the end of this season.

Joan Laporta is clear about the need to sign Robert Lewandowski’s successor as soon as possible and, beyond the dream of signing Haaland, going for Viktor seems to be a sensible move. However, Sporting must give the green light to negotiate a lower price, since Barça has other market priorities to attend to and some significant financial limitations for the next summer market.

In any case, the way seems clear to begin talks with the ‘killer’, who this season has no less than 25 goals and 4 assists in 23 official matches with the Lisbon team. Not in vain, the Swede is the fashionable ‘9’ in European football and one of the most coveted players of the moment.
