Beautiful corner of Europe full of stunning beaches but without the crowds
As overtourism grips some of the most famous European holiday hotspots, Brits are on the hunt for lesser known getaways for summer peace and quiet.
And although Croatia’s popularity has absolutely soared in recent years, there are still some lesser-known gems that might just give that craved-for out of office respite.
Premantura is a small picture perfect village located on the southernmost tip of the Istrian peninsula, near the city of Pula.
And just a few minutes from Premantura there is Cape Kamenjak, which is a small peninsula boasting almost 20 miles of stunning coastline which has been dubbed by Lonely Planet as one of the top 10 beaches on the Mediterranean.
A recent write up in the Telegraph included the area in its series which showcases “lesser-known corners of Europe” that provide alternatives to more well-trodden destinations.
It said: “Kamenjak is popular with nature lovers and adventure seekers, couples and families, but few come from further than neighbouring Italy. British voices are very rare indeed.”
The Visit Croatia website elaborates further explaining more about the location.
It said: “Close to Pula as well as some of the other resort towns in the area (such as Medulin), the park is an excellent and relaxing way to spend a day and is highly recommended.
“With an unusual landscape, miles of rugged coastline and beaches to enjoy, coves and caves to explore, a quirky ‘safari bar’ and even some animals to (hopefully!) see, it’s definitely worth an outing.”
And it seems many who have made the journey agree – with travel bloggers also singing the peninsula’s praises.
The Earth Trekkers said: “This day trip is the perfect blend of history, sightseeing, and outdoor fun.
“Spend the morning touring the must-see sights in Pula and then the real fun begins with the visit to Cape Kamenjak. Pack your swimsuit, your beach towel, and your camera for this awesome Istrian day trip.”
TripAdvisor is a popular travel website where tourists leave their thoughts about places they visit.
Kamenjak National Park has been given a very impressive rating of 4.5 out of a possible five marks by almost 2,000 users.

“It does take time to locate the best swimming spots, just enjoy the beautiful nature and explore.”
