Caitlin Clark gets new job offer in another sport after confirming WNBA break
Caitlin Clark has been invited to ditch the WNBA and become a full-time player on the LPGA Tour after her excursions on the golf course.
Clark spearheaded the Indiana Fever’s incredible post-Olympics form to a play-off berth and while they crashed out in the first round, the Iowa native has helped the sport reach new heights with a booming audience.
However, that has not stopped Clark from taking her talents elsewhere and in an off-season break where many of her rivals are competing overseas or at the 3v3 Unrivalled League founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, Clark has other plans.
She is making the move from basketball to golf this winter and will be competing at the penultimate LPGA Tour event of the season next month, hosted by Annika Sorenstam in Florida.
After exiting the WNBA play-offs at the hands of the Connecticut Sun, Clark joked that she had plans to “become a professional golfer” and would be taking a break from non-stop basketball in order to relax and hit the links.
While practising for the upcoming event with Fever team-mate Lexie Hull, Clark filmed a video for her TikTok page of the pair playing a par three hole.
Clark came just inches away from making an incredible hole-in-one. She spun in a circle and fell to the floor when she realised how close she was to an ace, before putting for birdie.
The video was reposted to the Overtime WBB Instagram page and a curious comment from the LPGA’s official account tagged Clark and wrote: “You trying to join another league???”
The tour also added a pair of eyes emoji, before then sharing the clip to their X (formerly known as Twitter) page and captioning the video: “File this under things we love to see. Game knows game.”
Clark has not yet replied to the LPGA’s job offer and it is not the first time they have tried to recruit the 22-year-old. When she announced her off-season plans to switch to golf, the tour reposted a clip of her press conference and said: “Count us in”.
While it remains unlikely that the LPGA’s offer will be taken up, after an incredible first season in the WNBA saw Clark shatter numerous records, the sporting switch is proving to be a welcomed distraction after years of relentless basketball.
Speaking on her participation in November’s LPGA event, Clark said: “I love golf so the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sorenstam’s name on it is so exciting.
“I’m looking forward to seeing all the LPGA players on the driving range, being part of the Women’s Leadership Summit, and, of course, teeing it up in the pro-am with Annika.”
