Convatec’s ‘pioneering’ catheter for women continues to scale up in Europe

Convatec, a leading global medical products and technologies company, has announced the launch of GentleCath Air for Women with FeelClean Technology in the UK and Italy, following its successful launch in France. The device is also on track to launch in the United States this year.

Since the initial launch late last year, the company says it has consistently received positive feedback from both end-users and healthcare professionals. This is reflected in steady growth in our female compact segment share according to Convatec.

GentleCath Air for Women uses Convatec’s FeelClean Technology, which integrates hydrophilic properties into the material of the catheter, avoiding the sticking and tugging associated with some coated hydrophilic catheters – while decreasing mess and residue.

It is designed to minimise damage to the urethral mucosa, reduce discomfort, bleeding and protect as the first line of defence against UTIs.

Key features of the product according to Convatec include its design. The catheter is discreet and can fit into a pocket, purse, or handbag. The company also says that the catheter is instantly activated, once the case has been opened and the catheter has been pulled out, it is ready to be used.

Convatec says the product is easy and hygenic to handle, as it has a long funnel for handling without touching the actual catheter. The AirCase of the product is resealable and leak-proof, which the company says allows for discreet disposal. Another feature of the case according to Convatec is that it is made from sustainable packaging, making it fully recyclable.

“In line with our forever caring promise, we designed this pioneering catheter by listening carefully to the needs of our customers as well as healthcare professionals. Beyond the technological benefits of our unique FeelClean Technology, we delivered practical, everyday usability features in this product. Our aim is to ensure cathing is as smooth and efficient as possible, while maximising comfort, confidence, and the quality of life of our customers,” said Seth Segel, President & Chief Operating Officer, Continence Care & Home Services Group.

Convatec says Scientists from the School of Pharmacy, Queens University Belfast, have recently published a paper in a scientific journal demonstrating that GentleCath with FeelClean Technology causes 30% less damage to human urethral cells compared to the leading PVP-coated hydrophilic catheters.
