Diaspora across Europe pays tribute to Manmohan | Chandigarh News – Times of India

Amritsar: Following the death of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Indian expatriates across Europe, regardless of their religious or political backgrounds, gathered in gurdwaras and Hindu temples to offer prayers for his soul.
“People came together to remember his leadership, wisdom, and dedication to India’s progress. His legacy was celebrated by Sikhs, Hindus, and people of all faiths, who viewed him as a statesman who brought India into the global spotlight,” said Rajwinder Singh after offering prayers at Gurdwara Sahib, Geneva, Switzerland.
Stating that people of Indian origin had come from far-off places to offer prayers and their respect to Dr Singh, Harpinder Singh from The Netherlands said, “Dr Singh was not just a political leader, he was an embodiment of humility, integrity, and wisdom. As a Sikh, I take immense pride in the fact that a Sikh led our great nation at a time when India needed global recognition.” Prayers were offered at Gurdwara Guru Nanak, Rotterdam, he added.
Parmod Kumar from Germany informed that a prayer was offered at Sri Hindu Mandir. “We had always admired Dr Singh’s leadership as he was a leader who inspired people all over the world. I remember how, during his tenure, the world began to recognise India as a major player in the global economy. He had a unique ability to stay calm under pressure, and his economic reforms are still being felt today,” said Parmod.
Jeewan Padda from Belgium said that the Indian diaspora here had held a prayer ceremony in Gurdwara Guru Nanak Sahib, Brussels “Hindus and Sikhs had gathered here in large numbers hailing vision of Dr Singh and to pay their last respect to him,” he said. Despite living in Belgium, he said he was always inspired by his (Dr Singh’s) commitment to peaceful diplomacy and economic growth. “His leadership taught us the importance of staying true to one’s principles, even in the face of adversity. Today, we pray not only for his soul but for the peace and prosperity he wished for India” said Padda.
Similar reports were received from Italy, Spain Portugal, Denmark and Finland.
