Donald to pick six wildcards for Europe Ryder Cup tilt

Qualifying points will be earned using a new tournament banding structure weighted towards performances in the majors and biggest PGA Tour and DP World Tour events, but LIV Golf tournaments remain unable to award points.

The new points list replaces the World Points List and European Points List which were based on world ranking points and Race to Dubai points respectively.

Players must remain members of the DP World Tour to be eligible for the Ryder Cup, meaning the likes of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton will have to play four regular Tour events this season to maintain membership.

Qualifying will begin at the British Masters from August 29 to September 1 and end at the DP World Tour event – yet to be determined – which ends on August 24, 2025.

In 2024, the only place to earn Ryder Cup points will be on the DP World Tour, with points earned in PGA Tour events only counting from January 1, 2025, until August 17, 2025.

Donald said: “I am delighted to be able to confirm the details of the qualification process for our 2025 Ryder Cup team.

“A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to get to this point and everything is now focused on doing all we can to retain the trophy in New York next September.”

PGA European Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings said: “This is a major milestone moment in our journey to the 2025 Ryder Cup.

“This is without question a much cleaner and simpler qualification system than the ones utilised in previous years and we thank Luke and his vice-captains Edoardo Molinari and Thomas Bjorn for their vital input over the past few months.”
