European weather maps turn volcanic red as 32C October heatwave sizzles Spain
Areas of Europe are due to have a sunny start to October as weather maps turn red, bringing temperatures of over 30C.
Spain in particular is due to be hit hard by the very warm temperatures, most notably in the south where weather maps suggest the mercury will reach 32C on October 6.
Northern parts of the country will have a much milder day according to the maps by WX Charts, as temperatures appear set to stay in the low-to-mid 20s, getting gradually warmer as you move further south.
Popular holiday destinations that will be caught in the heatwave this week are likely to be Seville and Valencia, however most of the affected areas appear to be in more rural areas of the south that aren’t as popular with tourists.
According to meteorologists, the Azores anticyclone will be present just off the coast of Spain, almost guaranteeing stable weather for the southern half of the country and the Canary Islands.
In general, areas including Madrid and the regions south of it are expected to see temperatures shooting into the high 20s and low 30s, but an approaching storm on Wednesday or Thursday may change that.
The Atlantic low is due to bring heavy rains and storms that could spread down to southern Spain. The extreme south is likely to be spared, but clouds are still expected.
Temperatures are due to calm down on Thursday for most of the country, but the Canary Islands and the northwest are due to get warmer. Weather maps for Sunday, October 6 show nevertheless a return to hot temperatures across the nation.
The high temperatures of this week will also spread into southern Portugal, particularly Faro, and the north of Africa, particularly Morocco and Algeria.
Greece is coming out of a period of bad weather that forced officials to tell tourists to stay inside to avoid adverse conditions.
The storm threat is due to ease off on Tuesday, making way for a period of warmer weather on Friday, October 4, according to weather maps. Areas of the mainland and some islands will experience similar highs to Spain, with temperatures hitting the early 30s.
In mainland Greece, areas in the central region and further south will hit 32C, including areas to the north and east of Mount Parnassus.
In Western Greece, the coastal areas of Araxos and Kalogria could see temperatures reaching 30C. This heatwave also spreads across Turkey, which is due to experience temperatures of 30C in many areas in the west.
Italy is also due to be hit with bad weather for four days starting on October 1 as a new Atlantic storm front led by cold air comes swooping across.
The popular tourist destination of Tuscany in central Italy will be one of the first regions to experience heavy rainfall on Tuesday, before the weather front moves northeast.
On the other hand, regions in the south including Calabria and Sicily are forecasted to avoid intense rain and storms. Though still milder than other areas in Europe this week, areas in southern Italy can expect highs of 28C and lows of 20C.
