Golf prodigy, six, to travel across Europe as he takes the sport by storm

Rafferty Fry, who first held a club at the age of two in 2020, has gone ‘leaps and bounds’ since the start of the decade, with the youngster expected to take part in several tournaments across Europe in 2025.

And even though he doesn’t have a handicap, the child is playing the sport ‘nearly every day’ with his dad, Perry Fry, saying there ‘is no ceiling’ for the prodigy.

Due to his rapid rise in the sport, the six-year-old has been put forward to take part in several events in Spain and Turkey in the coming months.Rafferty in action at the British Junior Golf Tour (Image: Perry Fry) As well as winning the British Junior Golf Tour in Norfolk earlier this year, he also participated in a competition in France.

Perry told the Free Press: “I think it’s fair to say he’s doing pretty well!

“He started from a young age (two years old), swinging a club in the back garden during lockdown and what has shocked me is his attitude – he loves it.

“There isn’t a day where he doesn’t ask me to play golf with him and it’s great to see.

“He’s gone from being good at golf to excelling – it’s amazing, I’m proud as punch.”

After seeing that Rafferty had an interest in the sport, Perry and his wife signed up the talented child to lessons at Marlow’s Harleyford Golf Club, where he is under the wing of ex-professional, George Howlett.

He continued: “George has taken Rafferty leaps and bounds.

“He has gone from strength to strength and he’s loving it.

“After school, we’ll take him to the course or the driving range and in the summer it’s a lot easier because of the weather.

“Als, you honestly wouldn’t know [he is an exceptional golf player] when he’s on the playground.

“He doesn’t mention it and we are trying to keep him as young as possible.

“He has found a group of lads on the British Junior Golf Tour who are all the same age, so he has friends that have a common interest.

“We don’t push him into anything.

“The second Rafferty doesn’t want to play golf, he’ll stop playing golf as I won’t push him into anything.

“There is no ceiling and at the moment, he’s loving it and we’ll keep supporting him.”
