Green to Captain England Again in European Cricket Championship | National Counties Cricket Association

Chiara Green will again lead England XI as they attempt to retain the European T10 Women’s Championship in Spain starting on Sunday (December 15).

The Sussex off-spinner was captain when England XI won the inaugural competition 12 months ago and she will return to the Cartama Oval near Malaga with a squad that contains a blend of youth and experience among some of the exciting emerging players in English cricket.

Green, 31, is one of six players who were involved in the title-winning campaign with Glamorgan pair Beth Gammon and Libby Thomas, Yorkshire’s Maddie Ward – already an England Under-19 international – and Ria Fackrell and The Blaze’s former Staffordshire fast bowler Amy Wheeler also in this year’s squad.

Green, who has also played for Southern Vipers in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, will form part of the England XI management team with new Head Coach Jennifer Jackson, a former Kent seamer, and ex-Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and Hampshire pace bowler Richard Logan, Operations Director of the National Counties Cricket Association.

“I am really excited to have the opportunity to lead the girls again this year in another European tournament,” Green said.

“We are also really lucky to have the support of our new team sponsors which we are really grateful for.

“Following the success of last year I am really hopeful for another great year with the team and I can’t wait to get out there and get going.”

England XI begin their title defence against Netherlands on Sunday December 15 (8.35am) in the Premier Division opener which is also a re-match of last year’s final.

They will then play Scotland at 2.35pm later that day followed by matches against Ireland on December 16 (12.35pm), Scotland (8.35am) and Italy (2.35pm) on December 17, Ireland on December 18 (10.35am) and Italy (8.35am) and Netherlands (2.35pm) on December 19.

The final is on December 20 at 2.35pm preceded by an eliminator at 8.35am and a qualifier at 11.35am. There is a reserve day on December 21 in case weather disrupts Finals Day.

England XI will head to Spain with the support of Kibra, a leading brand in premium high-performance activewear, who are headline sponsor for the tournament.

Supporting sponsors are social enterprise Asan and Liam Plunkett Cricket, a leading provider of cricket development resources.
