Mumbai: The European T20 Premier League (ETPL), a franchise-based cricket tournament sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC), has taken a major step forward with renowned actor, entrepreneur, and sports enthusiast Abhishek Bachchan joining as a co-owner. The league, which will feature six teams from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands, is set to run from July 15 to August 3, 2025, and aims to elevate the profile of cricket across Europe.

With Abhishek Bachchan’s investment, the ETPL gains global visibility and appeal. His involvement is expected to boost the league’s reach in key cricket markets such as India, England, and Australia, while also inspiring a new wave of cricket fans across Europe.

“Cricket is not just a sport; it’s a unifying force that transcends boundaries,” said Abhishek Bachchan. “The ETPL is the ideal platform to showcase cricket’s growing global appeal. With cricket being included in the 2028 Olympics, its popularity will further surge. I’m humbled and excited about this unique collaboration between the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. This is just the beginning. It’s time to roll up our sleeves and let the games begin.”

The league’s development is being led by a working group comprising representatives from the three participating cricket boards, alongside Rules Sport Tech, a strategic partner representing the funding entities.

With the ICC’s support and the expertise brought in by Rules Sport Tech, we believe we can create a cricket experience that inspires young talent and provides a tremendous platform for European cricket on the global stage.”

Saurav Banerjee, Director of the ETPL, emphasized the growing potential of cricket in Europe, “Cricket, the second most-watched sport globally, is gaining significant momentum in Europe. With 34 out of 108 ICC members from this region, we aim to build a legacy that players, fans, and stakeholders can proudly celebrate. We look forward to working closely with Abhishek, whose commitment to sports is truly inspiring.”

Priyanka Kaul, Director of the ETPL, highlighted the tournament’s extensive reach and media coverage:
“Starting with six teams – Dublin, Belfast, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Edinburgh, and Glasgow – the tournament will be broadcast to audiences worldwide. Abhishek’s enthusiasm and deep passion for this initiative have been invaluable. We look forward to continuing this exciting journey with him.”

The ETPL will offer a platform for local talent from Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands to play alongside international stars, bringing a unique flavor to the European cricket scene.

The league’s financial framework is being overseen by KPMG, which serves as an Advisor to the ETPL, providing financial planning, governance, and strategic advisory services. The Ravi Rajan Group has also been appointed as a financial advisor, with a focus on ensuring transparency and sustainability.

S Ravi, Founder of Ravi Rajan Group, emphasized the league’s commitment to financial integrity:
