I’m a Celeb’s Barry McGuigan leaves after double elimination
Former professional boxer Barry McGuigan has been the latest contestant to get voted off I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!
In a shocking double elimination, he was the fifth person to leave the jungle alongside fellow campmate and former Irish Love Island contestant Maura Higgins.
Barry spent 20 days in the jungle and took part in ‘spiralling out of control’ and opened up about the death of his daughter.
He said he found the jungle experience harder than he originally thought.
“I’ve had an incredible time but it was tough having no salt or pepper, we take these things for granted,” he said.
Where is Barry McGuigan from?
Born in Clones, County Monaghan, McGuigan was nicknamed The Clones Cyclone.
McGuigan, who became World Featherweight Champion in 1985, shared many highs and lows in the jungle.
One moment which touched the hearts of many viewers was an emotional conversation in which he opened up about the death of his daughter.
McGuigan told his jungle campmates about how she originally recovered from leukaemia as a child after two years of treatment.
Actress Danika McGuigan died five weeks after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2019, aged 33.
During his time in the jungle, McGuigan took part in two challenges.
He was left frustrated in the coffin challenge as he was unable to gain stars for camp after not being able to see the number to unlock the codes for the padlocks while surrounded by snakes.
However, there was redemption as he gained 10 out of 11 stars in the ‘spiralling out of control challenge’.
McGuigan spoke highly of all his campmates but made no secret his favourite to win.
He formed a close-knit friendship with Danny Jones and told hosts, Ant and Dec, “Danny boy will win”.
Reflecting on her time in the jungle, Love Island reality star Maura Higgins said she felt she had been tougher than she expected.
“I really did embrace it. I didn’t think I would have embraced it as much as I have.”
She told Ant and Dec what she was looking forward to most was a “big massive breakfast” and chocolate.
Maura found an unusual friendship with celebrity vicar and former musician with The Communards, Reverend Richard Coles.
“I love every single one of them but I want Father Richard to win,” she said.
“He would not expect it.”
Who is left in the jungle?
Danny Jones and Colleen Rooney remain top favourites to win.
But they still face competition from Oti Mabuse, GK Barry, Alan Halsall and Richard Coles as they battle it out to become king or queen of the jungle.
When does I’m A Celebrity final?
I’m A Celebrity 2024 will end on Sunday, 8 December, with the final episode airing at 9.00pm.
