‘I’m a travel expert – this hidden European gem should be top of your list’

With British tourists all set to jet off to summer holidays, a travel expert has named one hidden European destination for an unforgettable experience.

According to Flash Pack’s 2024 travel trends report, Pack Leaders have observed a decline in tourism for hotspots such as Mykonos and Santorini.

Brits are increasingly opting for a more untouched and authentic experience, swapping the Mediterranean and Greek islands for destinations like Albania.

Albania is a country located in Southeast Europe on the Balkan Peninsula. It is bordered by Montenegro to the northwest, Kosovo to the northeast, North Macedonia to the east, and Greece to the south.

Pack Leader Taib Dzemidzic said: “Albania’s natural landscapes, from the Riviera to the rugged Albanian Alps, remain largely unspoiled.

“Its cultural heritage is rich and diverse, featuring ancient ruins, Ottoman architecture, and traditional villages that provide a unique glimpse into the past.”

Travellers can experience the Albanian Riviera, swim in the stunning blue waters, hike through national parks, and visit museums and cultural sites.

If you are considering solo travel, Albania should be at the top of your list.

Mr Taib said that “the friendliness and hospitality of the Albanian people make visitors feel welcome and safe.”

With its fascinating historical heritage, unspoiled nature and affordability, Albania is a perfect destination for solo adventurers, the expert added.

To the west, it has a coastline along the Adriatic Sea, and to the southwest, it is bordered by the Ionian Sea.

The country features a diverse landscape with mountains, valleys, and a significant coastline. The Albanian Alps in the north are known for their stunning scenery.

Albania has a rich cultural heritage with influences from Illyrian, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman civilizations.

The country is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, including the ancient city of Butrint and the historic centers of Berat and Gjirokastër.
