ITA Airways and Icelandair agree codeshare deal

Italian carrier ITA Airways and Icelandair have signed a codeshare agreement to connect their networks, with codeshare flights starting from 20 January.

The agreement will enhance connectivity between Rome Fiumicino and Reykjavík airports, according to the carriers, and open up access to ITA’s domestic network. Icelandair also recently increased its winter frequency to Rome to four times weekly.

The deal will allow passengers to travel on a single ticket, with luggage checked through to the final destination.

ITA Airways general manager Andrea Benassi said: “This agreement further enhances ITA Airways’ commercial strategy of growth and opens a privileged access route to all passengers who will benefit from the connectivity via Rome Fiumicino and Reykjavik.”

The carriers, in a statement, said they plan to expand the partnership by adding codeshare flights between “mutual European gateways”.

ITA is currently in the process of being acquired by European aviation giant Lufthansa Group after the European Commission last month approved the latest package of remedies.
