Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Tops Politico’s List As Europe’s Most Influential Figure

Giorgia Meloni, Italian Prime Minister has secured the leading position in Politico’s latest ranking of Europe‘s most influential personalities, topping a list of 28 individuals.

According to Politico, Meloni’s rise has seen her evolve from an ultranationalist political figure to Italy’s prime minister, leading the right-wing Brothers of Italy party, all within the span of a decade.

Her political transformation includes a move away from her previous ties to the neo-fascist Italian Social Movement and past support for Benito Mussolini. As prime minister, she has embraced a more centrist stance, gaining recognition from European leaders who had initially viewed her with scepticism.

Since assuming office in 2022, her administration has enacted tough policies on migration and LGBTQ+ issues. Her firm migration strategy, which includes controversial agreements with Tunisia and Egypt, has garnered support from EU leaders, despite concerns about its impact on vulnerable populations.

According to the Politico report, while classified as a right-wing leader in Europe, Meloni has positioned herself as a key EU player, balancing nationalist principles with pragmatic governance, particularly on issues like Ukraine and migration policies.

Meloni has brought notable stability to Italy’s traditionally volatile political landscape. Her leadership style has earned her recognition as Italy’s ‘alpha’ figure, often outmanoeuvring opponents through her intellectual capacity and authoritative demeanour.
