Janis Timma Passes Away Shocking European Basketball Community
Tragedy has struck the European basketball community as news breaks of the untimely death of Janis Timma, the former Olympiacos player. The 32-year-old Latvian was found dead outside an apartment building in Moscow, leaving fans and former teammates stunned.

During the 2018-2019 season with Olympiacos, Timma recorded impressive stats, averaging 6.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game, along with notable three-point shooting percentages. Despite showing potential, he faced stiff competition on the team, leading to his departure mid-season. He later played for teams like Khimki, Unics Kazan, and Obradoiro, consistently showcasing his shooting skills and versatility.
The shocking nature of his death has left many reeling, especially the fans and staff of Olympiacos. The club expressed its sorrow, stating, “We are all shocked and heartbroken by the news of the tragic death of former player Janis Timma at the age of 32. We will always cherish his kind heart and smile. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Janis, may you find eternal peace, and you will be missed.”
Adding to the heartbreak, Timma’s ex-wife, Anna Sentokova, who is also a well-known singer, shared her grief and described her past few years as hellish. Having just separated from Timma officially on December 9, the situation took another turn when Anna discovering his body just days after his birthday wish to her appeared on his Instagram.
On December 16, just one day before his lifeless body was discovered, Timma wished Anna happy birthday through his social media account, perhaps indicating the complicated emotions he faced during difficult times. His phone was located beside him with the screensaver reading, “Call Anna,” hinting at the anguish he likely experienced after their separation.
The basketball community mourns the loss of not only a talented player but also of someone who influenced many through his passion and love for the sport. His death serves as both a reminder and as motivation for everyone to address mental health openly and genuinely, ensuring others know they are not alone in their struggles.
