Lufthansa City Center names new MD

Heiko Brix

TMC network Lufthansa City Center International (LCCI) has appointed Heiko Brix as managing director, effective from 1 September.

Brix will replace Martina Groenegres, who is set to enter early retirement in August after taking the helm at LCCI in 2020.

Based in Germany, Brix brings 32 years of industry experience to the role, including a 23-year career within the Lufthansa Group, most recently as commercial director, touristic office management at low-cost carrier Eurowings.

He started his career at Kuoni Travel, before joining the Lufthansa Group in 2001, where, as a key account manager, he was responsible for Lufthansa City Center travel agencies. He later worked across various managerial and sales director roles in both Germany and Singapore.

Commenting on his new role, Brix said: “The Lufthansa City Center network, both in Germany and globally, has consistently been an integral and professional presence throughout my career. With its advanced technological infrastructure, its incredible human power of locally routed innovative entrepreneurs and its collaborative efforts, it feels absolutely fitting and rewarding to officially join the team.”

LCCI board chairman Johannes Walter, in a statement, welcomed Brix to the role and thanked Groenegres for her work, including “achieving outstanding success” despite the global pandemic.

Under Groenegres’ leadership the international network expanded from 220 to 300 locations in 104 countries, Walter said. LCC is also ranked among the largest TMC networks in Europe in BTN Europe’s Leading TMCs 2024 report.
