Lufthansa moves to improve performance at Frankfurt and Munich
Lufthansa Airlines has announced a shake-up of how it manages the key hubs of Frankfurt and Munich in a bid to tackle “major operational challenges” at both airports.
The German carrier, which is currently undergoing a “comprehensive turnaround” process, has announced that Lufthansa Airlines’ CEO Jens Ritter will also take over responsibility for operations at Munich from 1 January.
Meanwhile, Klaus Froese, who is the airline’s chief operations officer and accountable manager, will assume responsibility for Lufthansa’s major hub at Frankfurt from the same date.
In a statement, the airline said that operational challenges at Frankfurt and Munich had “led to a decline in quality, particularly during the peak periods of recent summers”.
“Among other things, the new structure, with explicitly responsible hub managers, is intended to improve the processes of the flight operations at the respective locations,” added Lufthansa.
“This includes station and cabin management, as well as the co-ordination and further development of ground infrastructure and processes.
“The goal is to ensure stable, reliable and punctual flight operations in co-operation between the Lufthansa teams and their respective local partners – even during peak periods in the summer.”
The airline added that the move was designed to “improve the travel experience of Lufthansa passengers at the group’s two most important airports”.
