Man duped of Rs 4.5L with promising job in Europe | Vadodara News – Times of India
Vadodara: A complaint of cheating was registered against a travel agent at Sayajigunj police station. Ashish Patel, a resident of Ahmedabad, accused Khushali Upadhyay of taking lakhs of rupees from him to send him and his family to Luxembourg in Europe.
Patel told the police that he was referred to Upadhyay by an acquaintance, after which he met her in May this year. She told him that it would cost Rs 9 lakh to send him and his family to Luxembourg, to which he agreed. He sent her all the necessary documents, after which she asked him to deposit Rs 4.50 lakh.
Patel transferred the amount to her in different instalments. The accused even sent him a job offer letter from a company in Luxembourg. Patel was then issued an appointment letter for his and his family’s visa process in Aug by Upadhyay. When he reached Delhi, he learnt that the appointment letters were fake. Patel then took another visa appointment on his own, but he was asked by the authorities to submit a letter from the firm that offered him the job.
Patel asked Upadhyay to give him the company’s letter, but she kept dilly-dallying. The complainant then got suspicious and asked her for proof to show that she ran a legitimate consultancy agency. When she didn’t reply, he decided to approach the police.
