NBA planning to start European League, confirms FIBA president – 7sport

The potential new tournament could be a competition to the current Euroleague

The president of FIBA Europe, Jorge Garbahosa, has confirmed that the NBA is planning to establish a basketball league in Europe. Speaking to Marca, Garbahosa acknowledged the NBA’s intentions and emphasized that the project would be carried out in collaboration with FIBA.

“I am convinced this will happen because Mr. [Adam] Silver said it himself. The NBA sees clear opportunities in Europe. They’ve identified a vulnerability and decided to act on it,” Garbahosa stated. He added, “We are proud that the NBA has declared any initiative in Europe will be organized in partnership with FIBA. They greatly respect FIBA’s reputation and trust in our organization.”

While the timeline and specifics remain unclear, this development highlights the NBA’s growing interest in expanding its global footprint, particularly in a basketball-rich region like Europe.
