Paris Prepares for Monumental Surge in Global Air Traffic During 2024 Olympics – Travel And Tour World

In Paris, the 2024 Summer Olympic Games are all prepared to offer a large, yet short-lived boost to French international air travel. A good progress in international air travel to Paris has so far lagged that of other important cities in Europe in 2024.

However, information related to air ticket booking shows that the Olympics is changing this trend, if only for July last week and August first week of August. Ticket sales recommend that in the weeks moving forward to the Olympics, international air travel to Paris will get sluggish further, trending downwards on a year-on-year basis and bottoming out during the week ahead of the event.

This slowness is most probably a sign of delayed travel, as sales rise in the days immediately before the Opening of the Ceremony, as athletes and visitors come down to the city.

Incidentally, ticket sales to Paris show a second peak, a rise of 37% YoY on 2 August, which overlaps with the commencement of the event. The Olympic Games has clearly affected international air travel to Paris, with ticket sales running between 10% to 50% above the bookings experienced in 2023 during the same times.

Simultaneously, improvement in international air travel to other well-known European cities remains comparatively unchanging whatsoever. At present, Paris outperforms sales to these European cities by almost 30 percentage points.

By the end of this huge event, sales related to international ticket to Paris return to around 2023 levels as international bookings to other cities in Europe increase, representing that some travelers may grab chance to continue discovering the continent after exiting Paris.
