Penta Infra strengthens footprint in Copenhagen with acquisition of data centre site – Intelligent CIO Europe

Penta Infra, a fast-growing provider of reliable and sustainable data centres in Europe, has announced the acquisition of a site in Copenhagen that will be developed into a state-of-the-art data centre of over 20,000m², delivering 20MW of IT load.

Penta Infra, a portfolio company of Photon Capital, currently operates 12 highly connected edge and core data centres in Germany, France, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. With this acquisition, the company is enhancing its presence in Copenhagen with a second data centre.

Copenhagen is a key hub for data centre supply in Denmark and Europe due to its strategic location as a digital gateway to Europe, offering low-latency links to markets across the region.

Additionally, Denmark ranks among the world’s top countries for energy security and is a leader in renewable energy supply. Penta Infra plans to contribute to these sustainability achievements by constructing a data centre in accordance with the highest industry standards for energy efficiency.

Penta Infra also aims to recycle the heat generated by the data centre. This initiative has already been implemented at Penta’s other data centre in Copenhagen, which currently provides heat to approximately 1,500 homes and has been recognised with an award for the most sustainable data centre project in Denmark.

Bob Sprengers, Chief Executive Officer at Penta Infra, said: “We’re excited to announce our plans to construct a new cutting-edge data centre in the Metropolitan Region Copenhagen. Copenhagen’s strong global connectivity and remarkable advancements in renewable energy perfectly align with Penta Infra’s long-term strategy. Leveraging the city’s digital infrastructure and sustainability initiatives, we’re poised to meet the increasing demands of our global clientele for reliable, high-speed data solutions.”

Igor Josephus Jitta, Partner at Photon Capital, said: “The development of our second data centre in Copenhagen celebrates another remarkable milestone achieved by our portfolio company, Penta Infra. The recent acquisition further solidifies Penta Infra’s position as a leading company in the data centre industry. We are actively pursuing further acquisitions across Europe to propel Penta Infra’s growth trajectory forward.”
