Ryanair issues major update for those travelling to Europe this week

Ryanair has issued a warning to those who are travelling from a UK airport today.

The budget airline has said there is a delay expected across its network today (August 22). This is due to repeated ATC staff shortages across Europe.

Ryanair operates from major UK airports such as Birmingham, London Gatwick and Newcastle, where passengers could experience delays. 

The airline has apologised to its customers for the flight delays which are set to affect all European airlines.

ATC services, which have had the benefit of no French ATC strike disruption this summer, continue to underperform with repeated “staff shortages,” despite flight volumes being five percent behind 2019 levels.

Today saw 14 percent of Ryanair’s first wave departures, 81 of 587 flights, were delayed due to ATC “staff shortages”.

Ryanair flies to 37 countries, more than 250 airports and has 3,600 daily flights.

Ryanair’s website stated: “We apologise to our passengers for these repeated ATC flight delays which are deeply regrettable but beyond Ryanair’s control.

“We encourage passengers to visit atcruinedourholiday.com and demand that the EU Commission take urgent action to improve Europe’s ATC system.”
