Ryder Cup 2025 schedule

The Ryder Cup will be held from Sept. 23-28, 2025. The first three days of the tournament are practice rounds, while the final three days count towards points and standings. Thursday’s competition will include the Junior Ryder Cup Exhibition as well as celebrity matches and the opening ceremony.

Ryder Cup 2025 format

The Ryder Cup uses multiple playing formats over three days of competition.

On both the first two days, one four-match session of fourball and one four-match session of foursomes will be played. The last day of play will solely be 12 singles matches.

MORE: How much prize money does the Ryder Cup winner make?

Fourball is played in teams of two, meaning four balls are in play at each hole. Teams count the lower score for each hole, and the player who earned the lowest score wins the hole for their team. The hole is halves if scores are tied.

Foursomes are played in teams of two. Rather than each player playing their own ball, one ball is played per hole with players taking turns. Players alternate tee shots. Teams with the lower score on each whole wins.

Ryder Cup 2025 qualification process

Players must qualify their way to the Ryder Cup.

U.S. players can earn points throughout the 2024 and 2025 seasons up until the Tour Championship.

In 2024, players who make the cut at the Players Championship and at the majors are awarded one point per every $1,000. The 2025 points system will be finalized once the PGA Tour schedule is complete. Some players will qualify for the Ryder Cup team automatically while some will be selected by the captain. The number of each selected will be determined later.

For this round’s Ryder Cup, the DP World Tour’s Tournament Committee has changed the qualification process for Team Europe. The top six players as of Sunday, August 24, 2025, will qualify for the team. The captain may choose the final six players.
