SAS launches Copenhagen-Atlanta flights
Scandinavian airline SAS has expanded its transatlantic network with the launch of services from Copenhagen to Atlanta.
The introduction of the daily flights, which launched on Monday (17 June), mean that SAS now operates to nine destinations in North America. The airline will operate Airbus A330 and A350 aircraft on the route with three cabins – SAS Business, SAS Plus, and SAS Go.
The launch of the Copenhagen-Atlanta route comes ahead of SAS joining the SkyTeam alliance on 1 September. Atlanta is a major hub for leading SkyTeam member Delta Air Lines.
SAS said it had already started integrating Delta’s flights into its itineraries to give passengers “increased connectivity options”.
Paul Verhagen, SAS’s chief commercial officer, said: “SAS is excited to expand its offerings for both business and leisure travellers. For business travellers, Atlanta serves as a significant hub, home to numerous Fortune 500 companies, making it a lucrative and essential destination.”
Alain Bellemare, president of international, at Delta, added that working closely with SAS would “further strengthen Delta’s presence in Northern Europe by offering our customers improved access to destinations”.
“Our bilateral agreement is integral to our long-term strategy to better connect Delta customers around the world and SAS’ new non-stop service between Atlanta and Copenhagen, one of their primary European hubs, is a strong start in building our future co-operation,” said Bellemare.
SAS will operate daily flights on the Copenhagen-Atlanta route this summer and then fly five times per week next winter.
