Spotnana integrates Thrust Carbon emissions data

Travel tech provider Spotnana has announced an integration with sustainability specialist Thrust Carbon that will enable customers to monitor and report on their travel-related carbon emissions and ultimately have real-time visibility of their environmental impact.

The partnership, announced at the GBTA Convention in Atlanta today, will provide the companies’ mutual customers with emissions data for air, hotel, car and rail bookings at the point of sale – online and offline – for both travellers and agency staff using the Spotnana platform.

Johnny Thorsen, VP of business development for content distribution at Spotnana, said the integration provides customers with a “more holistic understanding of their carbon emissions”.

Speaking at the event, Thorsen added: “We are going to advance this [partnership] to the next level and that starts with who can get to it. Currently it’s available only to customers who are using Thrust Carbon and Spotnana so it’s not for everyone in the market and that’s because we are building some advance features that can only be delivered when you use both.”

Those steps include in the first instance a live data feed from Spotnana to Thrust Carbon of all booking activity. “Customers will have a real-time overview of the decisions they are making in the booking environment,” said Thorsen.

The companies will also work together on delivering carbon budgeting and contextual recommendations to travellers. “We are looking at nudging and dynamic messaging,” said Thorsen, “and about how can we communicate to the traveller what to do – or what not to do – and show them how they are comparing to others.”

Thrust last week became the first company assured to new ISO standard 14083 which provides a carbon accounting standard for the travel industry.

“Integrating Thrust Carbon into Spotnana’s travel platform demonstrates
our shared commitment to innovation that propels the travel industry
towards net zero,” said Mark Corbett, founder at Thrust Carbon.
“Together, we can deliver fast, accurate, and consistent emissions data
to corporate travellers, and ultimately, provide the technology stack to
deliver your climate goals.”
