These are the seven cheapest beaches in Europe

Enjoy your free time comfortably on a deckchair, look out to sea and take a dip now and again to cool off: The holiday season can be really nice and cosy. However, it can also be very expensive.

The booking platform Omio has analysed where sun loungers, beer, ice cream, Aperol Spritz and water are the cheapest for holidaymakers. For the ranking, 75 beaches in popular European holiday regions were compared with each other and the average temperatures and Google ratings were included in addition to the prices. These are the seven cheapest beaches in Europe:

1. Playa de las Canteras, Gran Canaria

The popular sandy beach in Las Palmas is the best place to cool off this summer. Bars and restaurants near the beach are reasonably priced. A beer costs around 3.40 francs, and an Aperol Spritz starts at just under six francs. Thanks to the light Atlantic breeze, Gran Canaria is a particularly pleasant place to be in summer.

2. Cleopatra Beach, Alanya

The seaside resort of Alanya on the Turkish Riviera on the Mediterranean, which has been popular for decades, not only impresses with its wide sandy beaches, but also with its low prices. This includes Cleopatra Beach, where the Egyptian queen of the same name is said to have once bathed. You can get a water here for the equivalent of around 40 centimes and a scoop of ice cream for just under 80 centimes. Sun loungers and parasols are also reasonably priced at 7.20 francs per day.

3. Playa de la Concha, San Sebastián

A top alternative to southern Spain with its extremely hot summers is the Basque Country in the north with great beaches on the Bay of Biscay and pleasant temperatures. Playa de la Concha, the city beach of San Sebastián, is also easy on guests’ holiday budgets. A deckchair with parasol costs just under three francs, the same as a beer. Water is available for less than 50 centimes.

4. Playa de las Teresitas, Teneriffa

Playa de las Teresitas on Tenerife is also easy on holidaymakers’ budgets. A water costs 70 centimes and a scoop of ice cream just under two francs. Even the beer is not too expensive at just under four francs. However, there is one small flaw in the rating. The authors of the study were unable to find out the price of deckchairs and parasols.

5. Scoglio di Monterosso, Monterosso al Mare

The beach in the Cinque Terre is one of the most popular beaches in Italy and is also one of the least expensive on holiday budgets. At just under two francs for a scoop of ice cream and around six francs for a glass of Aperol Spritz, the feeling of dolce vita quickly sets in. What’s more, it’s not quite as hot in summer as in other regions of Italy.

6. Beach of Warnemünde, Warnemünde

In Germany, the best value for money for holidaymakers is on the beach at Warnemünde on the Baltic Sea. Although a beach chair costs around 14 francs a day, holidaymakers don’t have to dig too deep into their wallets for ice cream (1.50 francs) and an Aperol Spritz (6 francs).

7. Falésia Beach, Algarve

The beach in the south of Portugal impresses with its low prices for alcoholic drinks. A beer costs around three francs, while a glass of Aperol Spritz will set you back just under four francs on your holiday budget. Sun loungers and parasols cost ten francs a day, which is rather low by international standards.
