Top European football clubs poised for Kai Tak stadium friendlies: Hong Kong FA
Hong Kong could stage multiple major exhibition football matches this summer, after the local association confirmed a number of leading promoters “would like to bring top clubs to the city”.
The Post has also been told that Tottenham Hotspur could be poised to play at Kai Tak in July. Separately, both Manchester United and Barcelona have been mentioned as possible illustrious visitors.
“A lot of promoters would like to bring top clubs to Hong Kong,” Charles Cheung Yim-yau, the general secretary of the Football Association of Hong Kong, China (HKFA), told the Post.
“We have not confirmed which teams will come, but when we have more information we will make an announcement. Maybe, there will be more than one game.”
Meanwhile, HKFA are lining up friendly fixtures for March and June, when Hong Kong have AFC Asian Cup qualifiers against Singapore and India, respectively, but Yeung said that neither opponents nor locations had been confirmed for the practice games.
