Tourist destination boasts overwater villas just like Maldives – but much closer
A hidden gem in Europe offers overwater villas just like the Maldives without the hefty flight costs.
For many, the dream of jetting off to the picturesque south Asian nation might be out of reach thanks to the daunting 12-hour journey and the steep price of airfare. However, this secret spot could offer the same island vibe without draining your wallet or exhausting you with long travel hours, as it’s much closer to home.
TikTok user @whywaitjustgo has garnered more than 180,000 views on a video showing off this unique find. The clip reveals a spa in Sweden named Ästad Vingård, which doubles as a vineyard and features overwater villas reminiscent of the Maldives.
The travel enthusiast also revealed there is access to a freshwater pool at the location.
Guests can indulge in a four-course dining experience complete with wine pairings during their stay, along with a sensory spa experience.
While Scandinavia is typically thought of as an expensive destination, a flight to the nearest airport – Landvetter in Gothenburg – from London can cost less than £20 one way if booked ahead and during off-peak season. In contrast, flights to Velana International Airport in the Maldives can cost as much as £700 return.
One user exclaimed: “That place looks so relaxing,” while others moaned the little-known destination would soon be awash with tourists now the secret had been let out on TikTok.
Nestled within the stunning Akulla beech forests, Astad Vingard takes pride as one of Sweden’s largest vineyards.
On its website, it boasts an array of offerings: “Here we grow organic grapes and produce our own wines. We also have the Michelin-starred Restaurang ANG, a nature-inspired spa, hotel rooms, and conference facilities.”
For those seeking indulgence, spa packages commence at a reasonable £168 per person, while a lavish two-night retreat demands £370.
