Troy Alumni Kayla Robinson Crowned Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe [SHAPE] International Basketball Tournament Champion – Troy University Athletics
TROY, Ala. – After dawning the cardinal and white from 2016-20, Troy women’s basketball star Kayla Robinson used her talents to win the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe International Basketball Tournament Championship as a member of the United States Air Force for 2023.
“We are beyond proud of Kayla and her ability to continue to win more championships in basketball while also protecting and serving this great country,” head coach Chanda Rigby said. “It’s truly an honor to have coached her from 2016 to 2020, and I look forward to seeing her continue to succeed in both life and basketball.”
Robinson joined the Air Force branch in 2022 and found herself stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, where she resumed her love for basketball with pick-up at the East Side Fitness Center. From there, she competed against officers and enlisted members from all branches to join the Women’s Armed Forces Basketball team.
In 2023, Robinson and her teammates traveled to Germany to compete in the SHAPE International Basketball Tournament. While there, she competed against teams from Germany, France, and the United Kingdom before being crowned champion.
No. 1 for Troy from 2016-20, Robinson finished her career with the 15th most points in Troy women’s basketball history at 1,177 while earning 2017-18 All-Sun Belt Second Team and four Sun Belt Player of the Week awards – also marked as the eighth highest scorer in Troy D-I history.
The Georgia native was elite from the charity stripe with 246 made free throws for the seventh-most in Troy D-I history on 73.7 percent shooting. The Senior Airman was also a two-time Sun Belt Champion – one in the SBC Tournament and one in the regular season.
