Amid the recent escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war front, a British general has said that the UK would intervene if Russia attacks any of the NATO countries in Eastern Europe. Speaking to Politico, Rob Magowan, the deputy chief of British defense staff, said at a UK parliament committee hearing that the United Kingdom would respond if the recent Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine increases.

“I don’t think anybody in this room should be under any illusion that if the Russians invaded Eastern Europe tonight, then we would meet them in that fight,” Magowan told the House of Commons defense committee. He added that a UK intervention in the Russia-Ukraine war would pose “a range of operational risks and operational strengths” to the UK.

Recently, the conflict escalated after US President Joe Biden approved the use of long-range ATACMS missiles by Ukraine on Russia. Some reports claimed that UK-made Storm Shadow missiles were also used by Ukraine to attack some Russian targets. Meanwhile, over 10,000 soldiers from North Korea joined Russia on the front in the war against Ukraine. As per reports, the soldiers are under the stewardship of Kim Yong Bok, a 3-star general in the North Korean army.

Furthermore, Donald Trump’s re-election in the US has turned the odds against Ukraine significantly. Trump has talked repeatedly about withdrawing US and NATO support from Ukraine, which would significantly jeopardise Ukraine position in the region. Earlier, the President-elect had claimed that he would end the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours if he is elected to office again. There is some suggestion that his plan involves making Ukraine cede the territories around which the conflict started in 2022.

However, Trump has yet to formally present his plan for the Russia-Ukraine war. Shortly after the election results were finalised a report surfaced that Trump had spoken with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Trump’s “first buddy,” also reportedly joined the call.
