Ukrainian Veterans Compete at Arnold Classic Europe in Madrid – Oj

On Friday, October 11, the Arnold Classic Europe sports festival, founded by Arnold Schwarzenegger, began in Madrid. Every year, thousands of athletes from over 50 countries participate in this prestigious event.

As part of the festival, the Strong Spirit’s Games are held, featuring international sports competitions for war veterans. Ukraine is represented by a team of 50 veterans, including servicemen who have served in combat, as well as those who have sustained injuries or disabilities during their service.

Ukrainian defenders will compete in various events, including bench press for maximum weight, repetitions, air bike, rowing on the Concept2 machine, and kettlebell snatch. All sports categories are adapted according to the participants’ groups.

Accompanying and supporting the Ukrainian team at the competitions in Madrid are Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs Ruslana Velychko-Tryfonyuk and Head of the Veterans Sports Department at the Health and Mental Wellness Administration Anastasia Halayko.

“These competitions are not just about sports or medals. They represent the strength of spirit and the journey back to life after trials that leave marks not only on the body but also on the soul. Our defenders are those who find the strength to rise after falls, inspiring us every day with their courage. Watching their determination and struggle is a lesson in true bravery. I sincerely wish them victories, but most importantly, I want them to feel that they are back in their rightful place, among equals and among their own,” noted Deputy Minister Ruslana Velychko-Tryfonyuk.

It is worth mentioning that the government has assigned the Ministry of Veterans Affairs to prepare the Ukrainian national team and ensure its participation in the Arnold Classic Europe international sports competition. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine’s project “Sports Development for Veterans,” within the framework of the National Strategy for Creating an Inclusive Environment in Ukraine, developed at the initiative of First Lady Olena Zelenska.
