Austria chases 61 from 12 to defeat Romania [European Cricket]

In match 7 of the ECI T10 Romania, 2024, the Austrian cricket team took on Romania on Sunday, July 14 in Bucharest and chased down an unimaginable 61 runs from the final two overs of the match to defeat the hosts by 7 wickets.

After putting Romania to bat first in Bucharest, Austria was made to chase down 168 in 10 overs following a heroic effort from Romanian wicketkeeper, Ariyan Mohammed who scored 104*(39) and opener Muhammad Moiz’s 42(14).

During the run chase, Austria found themselves in a spot of bother at 107/3 in 8 overs with still 61 runs to win in the final two before Aqib Iqbal turned the game around for the visitors.

Manmeet Koli who conceded 57 in his two overs gave away 41 runs in the penultimate over of the match, 9 of those being extras.

Imran Asif and Aqib Iqbal then took Chamika Fernando to the cleaners as they finished off the game in his over with 4 balls going over the rope when they needed 20 in the final over.

Captain Iqbal scored an unbeaten 72 from 19 balls in his match winning knock. Imran Asif scored 22*(12) and opener Karanir Singh gave Austria a good start by scoring 30(13) upfront.
