You could soon travel across Europe with a single train ticket

Training around Europe is a great way to see the place – plenty of us have made the most of an interrail pass at least once in our lives, after all – but booking all those individual connections can be a bit of an admin nightmare.

However, soon the dreaded booking process could be a whole lot easier. Why? Well, because a proposal has been made to launch a single European booking platform for tickets.

That’s right – no more frantically rummaging through your emails, guys. In theory, the ticket will allow you to book an entire journey which includes multiple destinations with just one pass, and your full itinerary will be mapped out for you.

Proposed by European Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the platform aims to focus on promoting sustainable transport by making railways more appealing than flying – because of the admin and the price. ‘It is unbelievable that we do not have this in 2024,’ said Tzitzikostas, according to euronews

But this ticket platform isn’t the only development that’s been suggested. There are also ambitious plans for a European high-speed rail network to ease connections between the capital cities, and the Community of European Railway and Infrastructure Companies (which represents more than 70 operators), was a big fan of this.

It’s likely that lots of the sleeper trains which are already in operation would become part of this, if it goes ahead. Check out our favourite routes here, and our favourite trips around the world here, and stay tuned for updates on the launch of this platform – it should be some time in 2025.

Did you see that Copenhagen is offering people who move there ‘life quality insurance’?
